Queensland’s Field of Play Grants – Is Your Club Ready?
The Queensland Government’s Games on for Queensland – Field of Play Program is a major funding opportunity designed to upgrade and improve community sport and recreation facilities across the state. It’s aimed at helping clubs get “field of play” infrastructure ready for the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The program can support projects such as new or upgraded playing surfaces, LED sports lighting, shade and shelter, amenities, and accessibility improvements. Eligible organisations include not-for-profit community sport and recreation clubs and associations that meet the program’s criteria, with funding levels and co-contribution requirements varying depending on project size and stream. Full details, including eligibility, funding amounts, and key dates, are outlined on the Queensland Government’s website here:

Where many clubs struggle is not with the idea, but with turning that idea into a fundable project. Assessors want to see clear scope, realistic budgets, concept drawings, and how the project will benefit participants and the broader community. That’s where good planning and design make a real difference.
How Skewed Architecture can help your club
As an architecture studio experienced in sport and recreation projects across Queensland, Skewed Architecture can support your club through the early stages of the Field of Play grant process by:
- Developing concept plans and site layouts that clearly show the proposed works.
- Preparing supporting drawings that communicate staging, access, lighting, amenities and compliance in a way assessors understand.
- Providing advice on scope so your project is appropriately sized for the available budget and grant stream.
- Aligning proposed works with your existing or future master plan, so each project contributes to a longer-term vision for your facility.
This preliminary work not only strengthens your grant application, it also reduces risk later when you move into detailed design and construction.
If your club is considering applying for the Field of Play program and you need concept drawings, advice on scope, or help turning your ideas into a clear, grant-ready package, Skewed Architecture can work with your committee to get you prepared.
